Sundrips and When

Posted in ambient, electronic, music, new finds, video with tags , , on November 17, 2011 by oscarmassivehands

The duo of Ryan Connolly and Nick Maturo makes up this truly beautiful ensemble. Focussing on the methodology of making the music rather than aiming at a specific outcome, allows them to approah the music is a pioneering way. Brian Eno was one of the forerunners of aesthetic, ambient music and he was a true advocate of harmonic, resonant chords that floated in circles. Sundrips follow a similar process, and produce something that is meditative, calming, and soulful. In short this music gets to you and i would suggest you try and get your Massive Hands on the album ‘Just a Glimpse’.

Juj, Juj, who the fu*k is Juj..?

Juj, pronounced jooooj/jewj/joodge, is an electronic music producer hailing from the deep pools of talent that are Los Angeles (or ‘whales vagina’ in the words of good old Ron Burgandy). He is one of the co-founders of the Wedidit Collective which includes such great artists as Shlohmo and Elan, and is currently signed to HW&W Recordings.

LA pretty much supplies most of the soundtrack to my life, producing none other than the Brainfeeder crew (including Flying Lotus, Lorn, Samiyam and Tokimonsta) and this ‘bad boi’ is no different. Bouncy and full of character the tracks are short but so catchy they make ya head nod on impulse!

Make sure you check out the album ‘Slack’ as there are some fantastic tracks to be consumed, mulled over and swallowed.

Here is a little taster from his album, two tracks for your eardrums.

Ok, ok.. I have recently stumbled upon this awesomely  intriguing solo artist called oOoOO (pronounced Oh), which may very well be the best name i have ever come across!

Outstretched Arms for oOoOO

Merging hip-hop, haunting electronic beats, pop melodies and all kinds of weird and wonderful sounds, I am in Love..! This tune called Mumbai is heavily haunting and a little bit like Crack.. addictive. Make sure you listen to the full EP, aptly named oOoOO EP.

Sorry i have not posted for a while, i will try and remedy this with some frequent hits in the coming few weeks.

Peace, OscarMassiveHands is back!

Stoned and tired… thats where i am right now. Pantha du Prince.

Aka Hendrik Weber, Pantha du Prince makes an intricate combination of sounds, mixing a deep hypnotic techno underlay with fairly complex melodies… I like em’… ‘well’ chilled. Oscar waves massive hands right up in here.

Pass dat blaze up…!

Check this tune..

Shigeto

Posted in ambient, electronic, music, new finds with tags , on February 11, 2011 by oscarmassivehands

Shigeto (aka Zach Saginaw) is an electronic musician from Michigan. Born and raised on a diet of Motown and Jazz in good old US of A, he still pays homage to his family roots in Japan with his alias name, meaning ‘to grow bigger’.

He almost flunked school, but kept his musical interest alive and continued to study in London and New York. He has released EPs under other alias’, such as Frank Omura with Unshaven Face and All Rise. He has also done remixes for Worst Friends, Praveen & Benoit, Tycho, Mux Mool, Charles Trees, A Setting Sun, Beautiful Bells, and Shlohmo.

But his recent EP New Crossings as Shigeto makes you really sit up and take notice. Its outright beautiful! A weird clash of ambience, synthetic melody, IDM, dubstep sub-bass and fractured rhythms make this album so engaging. Its works… so well.

As usual here is one of my favourites, the rest is up to you…

Peace

This is not from the EP New Crossings, but i like it all the same.

Brokenchord

Another young talent from the Eastern Block, this time hailing from Lithuania. Brokenchord delivers a performance on his debut release, ‘The Bluestar EP’. In my opinion this is truely amazing.

This sound seems seems so mature, so developed and rich for a 19 year old. Maybe age has nothing to do with it, when it comes to music, but perhaps my surprise is that it is his first release?!?!

There is a sadness that runs through these melodies, and well tempered sawtooth synth pads with slo-mo halfstep. I definately get the sense we are being taken on a journey, being drawn into this dark world. And yet this world is so mesmerising, so addictive, like audio crack.

A ‘crunk’ beat, and electro resonance throughout this EP introduces us to this new unique sound. I cannot wait to hear more, but for now this new EP is more than enough. I am hooked…

Here are some tunes from this release.
