Ikonika (Hyperdub, London) – Fireside Chat

Ikonika (aka Sara Abdel-Hamid) hails from South West London. She has been making amazing music for years now, following her influences through hardcore and post punk while her elder sisters obsessed about hip hop. For her, Dilla and Dillinger Escape Plan were next door neighbors from the get-go.

She was a more recent addition to HyperDub, following the massive success of Burial and Kode 9 himself. Her noise is different, very different and i am sure will continue to challenge our musical taste buds. I remember a few years ago listening to Ikonika alongside SmokeLife, a bristol based dubstep collaboration, and at that time thinking she had something special. The future is bright for Ikonika, as we celebrate her mish-mash sound on her new album release with Hyperdub.

Kode 9, is one of the most interesting musicians/artists/people around right now. With views on Sonic Warfare and how he tries to attain an emotional response to his music when he plays are super interesting and if not a little scary slash awesome! Yes, all at the same time.
