Onra ‘aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Posted in Uncategorized on October 26, 2010 by oscarmassivehands

Onra is a french beat genius, whom is apparently residing in Paris, France. Although i would imagine he does little ‘residing’ as his pimpin’ coined sound makes him a busy busy boi.

He released his first album with his friend Quetzel as a hip hop tribute to soul music, and it was pretty refreshing so got some play time with Radio 1 legends Gilles Petersen and Benji B.

At around this time, he began to work alongside a keyboard player called Byron The Aquarius and released an album called The Big Pay Back, which was full of futuristic hip-hop, spaced out jazzy broken beats with Japanese Record label Circulations.

However, it was only when he retraced his roots to Vietnam, where he found his flavour. Coming back with some Chinese and Vietnamese vinyl, he released an album bursting with new oriental ‘vinyl-style’, future funk beats called Chinoiseries.

Then came Long Distance…. DAAANGGG!! Oscar Massive Hands is lovin this album right now… over and over and over….!

Here are some belters for ya.. and some funky vids we found.

This tune My Comet…. sooo goood!

Chris Morris & Blue Jam

Posted in Uncategorized on October 24, 2010 by oscarmassivehands

Hailing from England, Chris Morris is renowned as a satirical writer, journalist, and film maker whose most notorious creations includes Four Lions, Brasseye, The Day Today, and the Radio 1 programme Blue Jam; all of which touch on interesting and provocative subject matter, such as paedophilia, baby fights, substance abuse and often push the boundaries with what can be aired. Most notably the clip below, ‘Bishop Slips’ landed Chris Morris in some trouble, but was apparently a compromise as he had originally submitted a monologue called ‘Christs Cock and Balls’ in which a doctor prescribes just that to a patient! It was released on Warp Records.

Blue Jam gained cult status, with its mix of music, strange monologues and synthesised voices from a variety of people. Chris Morris himself delivered some of the strangest performances one of which was later converted to a short film, ‘My Wrongs 8245-8249 & 117’ which was awarded a BAFTA.

Chris Morris is a genius, and Oscar Massive Hands advises you to go and explore his works.

Here is one of Oscar’s favourite Blue Jam monologues.

Bishop Slips – This is perhaps one of his most controversial releases. Pure genius!!!

Andreya Triana

Posted in Uncategorized on October 4, 2010 by oscarmassivehands

Andreya Triana grew up in London UK and is a self-taught singer and songwriter. Throughout her early days she spent many an hour locked away in her small bedroom as a kid writing poetry, recording mix-tapes and developing a very deep and lasting soulful voice and sound.

These bedrooms sessions developed into what would become the ‘Freeflow Sessions’ which have been released worldwide, mesmerizing her captive audiences and in turn getting her past 1000’s of applicants and into the Red Bull Music Academy in 2006, where she has linked with some of the heaviest producers and musicians around right now.

She released ‘Tea Leaf Dancers’ with Flying Lotus (below) and is now looking to release a debut album with Bonobo on Ninja Tune Records. 2010 is going to be an interesting year for Andreya… Oscar Massive Hands can’t wait!

George Dennis Patrick Carlin was born in 1937 and passed away in 2008; and throughout his life was renowned as an actor, social critic, stand-up comedian and author and won 5 Grammy Awards for his comedy albums.

But you may know him more for his ‘most-epic’ appearance as ‘Rufus’, alongside Keanu Reeves’ finest moments as an actor in the films ‘Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ and ‘Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey’; Rufus is the time travelling future guide that flies around in a telephone box causing cosmic havoc, altering the Time Space Continuum and ripping some tunes on his magical electric guitar! Literally, a story of epic proportions…!

Carlin was known for his black humor, and his critical stance on US politics and culture, religion and language amongst many other topics. If you have not seen his stand up shows then you need to do some ‘web surfing’ and check him out! But for all your lazy peeps there here is one of Oscar Massive Hands’ favourites.
